Marriage Licenses


Marriage Licenses will be issued from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday - Friday. 


WHERE TO APPLY FOR YOUR MARRIAGE LICENSE

  • If you will be married in Idaho, you must obtain a marriage license.
  • If you are to be married in another state, you will need to get a license from that state.
  • Idaho Marriage Licenses do NOT have an expiration date and are good for any county within the State of Idaho. The completed License must be returned to the County it was issued from.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED IF YOU ARE OVER 18 YEARS OF AGE

  • Both people need to appear at the courthouse in person.
  • Both will need forms of photo identification.
  • Both must have and bring a Social Security Card.
    • Idaho Statue Title 32, Chapter 4:
      1. The Requirement that an applicant provide a social security number shall apply only to applicants who have been assigned a social security number.
      2. An applicant who has not been assigned a social security number shall:
        • Present written verification from the social security administration that the applicant has not been assigned a social security number; and
        • Submit a birth certificate, passport  or other documentary evidence issued by an entity other than a state or the United States; and
        • Submit such proof as the department may require that the applicant is lawfully present in the United States.
  • Cost: $28.00
  • Complete marriage license application forms at your appointment.
  • Two copies will be issued -- one is a decorative keepsake copy for the couple and the other is to be sent back to this office, by the officiant of the ceremony, to be recorded.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED IF YOU ARE UNDER 18 YEARS AND NOT LESS THAN 16 YEARS OF AGE

  • Both people need to appear at the courthouse in person.
  • Both need forms of photo identification.
  • Both must have and bring a Social Security Card.
  • One parent must be present, provide photo ID, applicant's birth certificate and sign provided documents for each applicant under 18.
  • Cost: $28.00
  • Complete marriage license application forms.
  • Two copies will be issued -- one is a decorative keepsake copy for the couple and the other is to be sent back to this office, by the officiant of the ceremony, to be recorded.

WHO CAN PERFORM THE WEDDING CEREMONY?  

  • Judge, Mayor or Minister. To schedule an appointment with a judge, call 208-878-7351.
  • The Mayor may be contacted at 208-878-2224. 
  • The minister may be anyone of your choice that is ordained to perform marriages.

CERTIFIED COPIES OF MARRIAGE LICENSES:

  • To obtain a star on your state issued ID card or Driver's License, you will need to provide the DMV with acceptable proof of any name changes. Certified copies of marriage licenses satisfy this requirement.
  • We are happy to supply certified copies upon request. Certified copies are $2.00 each.
